Our friends at Botanical Interests, who provides all of our organic seeds and sprouts, shared with us some great Summer Garden Care Tips. Come to the store to find out more about their products:
  1. Seeds are sown, plants are growing, summer is here, and the garden just needs a little TLC to keep looking and growing its best. Here are some general tips, but you can find more information on everything from pest control to fertilizing in the blogs linked below.
  2. Succession sow crops like beets, lettuce, carrots, bush beans, and basil every few weeks to keep new, fresh harvests coming.
  3. Fertilize plants that look they need a boost. Liquid fertilizers are absorbed more quickly than granular types, and you will see a faster response. It is a good idea to feed your garden once or twice a month. Our blog, "How do I Know Which Fertilizer to Use?" should be helpful.
  4. Watering at night is most efficient for most areas, however, in high humidity areas it can promote mildew so morning watering is better. In either case, watering the soil, not the plant foliage, will help prevent the spread of disease.
  5. Harvest frequently. Harvest fruiting plants like beans, tomatoes, or peppers so they reinvest their energy into creating more flowers and fruits.
  6. Mulch beds to keep roots more evenly moist to help prevent issues like blossom end rot and drought stress.
